Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for mine services vehicle operations
   • Access, interpret and apply mine service vehicle documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Receive, read, interpret and clarify work requirements/shift changeover details
   • Select appropriate type and capacity of equipment and/or attachments
   • Identify, address and report potential risks and hazards
   • Select personal protective equipment
   • Conduct equipment pre-start checks, ensure equipment is ready for operation
   • Identify, address and report environmental issues
   • Communicate with other personnel using approved communication methods
   • Adhere to emergency procedures, ensure safety of personnel, plant and equipment
2. Conduct mine service vehicle activities
   • Carry out start-up, park and shutdown procedures
   • Operate equipment within recommended speed, engine capability and limitations
   • Monitor equipment performance utilising appropriate indicators/gauges, maintain operating efficiency
   • Manoeuvre equipment, maximise efficiency and ensure safety of other equipment and personnel
3. Carry out operator maintenance
   • Conduct visual inspection and fault finding
   • Conduct routine operational servicing, ensure peak performance of equipment
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
   • Clean equipment
   • Clean and store attachments and other ancillary equipment
   • Complete written reports and records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete effective operation of mine service vehicle to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

demonstrates completion of the operation of mine service vehicle that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

carrying out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

operating, steering, manoeuvring and positioning mine service vehicle, attachments and ancillary equipment

carrying out inspections and identify faults

conducting operational maintenance including servicing, lubrication and cleaning

processing written records and reports

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when operating a mine service vehicle through:

equipment relative to working environment

recording, reporting and handover procedures

start up and shutdown procedures

technical information, including manufacturer’s manuals related to a mine service vehicle

operating vehicles within specifications and limitations

faults in vehicles and ancillary equipment

isolation procedures

towing procedures
